My collaboration with Swing Dance Uganda

A few months ago I made this wonderful collaboration with Okurut George and his swing dance project. In this video you can see both his Solo Jazz students and my students (from Swing Maniacs), dancing the same choreography. Separated by thousands of kilometres, and yet together.

Swing Dance Uganda is an organisation that works with different non-profit organisations in Uganda, such as the organisation Heart of Dance African Rhythm. They share swing dance with the children of the Nsambya slum in Gogonyia, one of the communities they have brought Solo Jazz and Lindy Hop to. Swing Dance Uganda is looking for partnerships with other swing dancers, especially Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz, to enrich the activity with the children.

Okurut George is committed to financially assist his students and their families, who face problems with school fees and other social and educational problems.

This year, together with Time2Swing, he has set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to be able to travel to and attend the swing dance festival called Maputo AfroSwing 2023. Okurut would like to take some of his students with him.

Roser Ros and Swing Dance Home have made a small contribution. If you are interested in the project, consider making your contribution here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/lindy-hop-in-mozambique
