Clayton "Peg Leg" Bates, born in 1912 in rural South Carolina, was a famous swing dancer and showman known for tap dancing with a wooden prosthetic limb and a unique style. Bates had lost a leg in a farming accident at the age of six.
Louise "Mama Lou" Parks is one of the dancers who, with her company, kept Lindy Hop "alive" after the closure of the Savoy Ballroom in 1958.
